Howdy! My name is Aubrey Hansen (I also blog and publish nonfiction under my “real” name, Rachel Greene). I’m a writer–but hopefully you already knew that, because you’ve read my books, right? I am also the editor in chief at Penoaks Publishing, a screenwriter, and a producer. In other words, I’m obsessed with story.
I began writing as a teenager with a several fanfiction pieces (my friends from the good ole days of the LEGO message boards will remember me as “PeanutP”). Ridiculous though they seem now, the rambling tales showed early signs of my writing style—and my peers loved them. Encouraged, I decided to write something semi-original. And that was the point of no return.
After several years as a verbose novelist, seemingly unable to write anything besides lengthy epics, I was introduced by a friend to the foreign world of screenwriting. At first I was skeptical of this strange language involving present tense and sluglines, but I couldn’t resist the urge to try. As usual, once I started there was no turning back. I now arbitrarily divide my time between scripts and novels and have gone on to produce my own feature.
My favorite childhood author was Frances Hodgson Burnett, and I have recently come to respect the greatness of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works, although The Lord of the Rings is about the only classic fantasy I can stand. Nevertheless, Coleman Luck’s Angel Fall wins the prize for being the most impacting novel I have ever read. I fully support the ebook revolution, and I’m also an adoring fan of grown-up “picture books”–manga and comics with all their beautiful art. In terms of movies, I love animation above all else, but I also have an inclination towards fairytales, superhero movies, and anything sci-fi. I am a very passionate geek (borderline dork), but my fandom is constantly changing, so you never know what I’ll be raving about.
Writing aside, I am a perky ENFP who makes too many friends and carries a reputation of being “dastardly positive.” A few of my favorite things are Pepsi, cats, reptiles/amphibians, dinosaurs, cupcakes, Sharpies, and glitter. I’m obsessed with color and adore argyle, plaid, and rainbows. I currently live in the Kansas City, Missouri, area and have just about as many cats as I have college classes (which is to say, too many of either).
And that would be me.
